Romney: Any Democrat "would be an upgrade" from Donald Trump.

Retiring Republican senator Mitt Romney (Utah) suggested he would not support Donald Trump for president in 2024 and any Democrat would be an upgrade from the leader of his party.

“I’d be happy to support virtually any one of the Republicans, maybe not Vivek, but the others that are running would be acceptable to me and I’d be happy to vote for them,” Romney told CBS news host Norah O’Donnell in interview Friday.

“I’d be happy to vote for a number of the Democrats too. I mean, it would be an upgrade from, in my opinion, from Donald Trump and perhaps also from Joe Biden,” Romney added.

He did not say which Democrats he had in mind, but Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) and author Marianne Williamson are the only declared challengers to Biden for the Democratic nomination for president.

Romney, one of Trump’s most vocal critics in Congress, announced in September that he won’t be seeking re-election to the Senate next year, choosing to retire after just one term.

“I have spent my last 25 years in public service of one kind or another. At the end of another term, I’d be in my mid-eighties,” he said in a video at the time. “Frankly, it’s time for a new generation of leaders. They’re the ones that need to make the decisions that will shape the world they will be living in.”
