Rubio says Trump taking classified documents to Mar-a-Lago is "not a crime"

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fl.) does not believe that Donald Trump taking documents out of the White House to his private residence at Mar-a-Lago in Florida is a crime.

Asked by Fox News host Bret Baier why Republicans are not as alarmed about Trump’s handling of documents compared to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton use a private email server while working for the White House, Rubio said: “First of all, I don’t know what’s true and what’s not, because they’ve made up so many stories about Donald Trump over the years that I mean things that I just knew were flat out untrue.”

“Nowadays, in the mainstream media, you just need one source to smear Donald Trump and maybe you don’t even need that. So it’s hard to tell anymore what really happened and what didn’t. The documents that were in Mar-a-Lago by all accounts were turned over,” Rubio continued. “Look if the process wasn’t followed there, then that there needs to be something that happens about that. It’s not a crime, I don’t believe, but the stuff about flushing paper down the toilet — who knows if that’s even true?”

National Archives officials reportedly went to Mar-a-Lago and seized 15 boxes of White House documents last month. Some of the boxes reportedly had classified documents. Archive officials also say some of the documents they received from the Trump White House were torn-up and taped back together.

Last week, New York Times White House correspondent Maggie Haberman revealed in her biography of Donald Trump called, Confidence Man that White House staffers regularly found the toilet in the presidential residence clogged up with printed paper during Donald Trump’s time in office.
