Sen. Cassidy: "I voted to convict Trump because he is guilty"

Republican senator Bill Cassidy said on Saturday that he voted to convict Trump because he is guilty.

“Our Constitution and our country is more important than any one person. I voted to convict President Trump because he is guilty,” Cassidy tweeted.

Cassidy was one of seven Senate Republicans— Mitt Romney (Utah), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Ben Sasse (Neb.), Patrick Toomey (Pa.) and Richard Burr (N.C.). —who joined all Democrats to find Trump guilty of the charge of inciting an insurrection.

The Senate vote of 57-43 fell short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict.
