Sen. Kyrsten Sinema won't run for re-election.

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) announced Tuesday she will not be seeking re-election in November.

“Because I choose civility, understanding, listening, working together to get stuff done, I will leave the Senate at the end of this year,” Sinema said in a video posted to social media.

Sinema left the Democratic Party in 2022 to become an independent. But she has continued to caucus with Democrats, helping them keep their narrow majority in the upper chamber.

Hee decision not to seek re-election avoids a three-way contest between Democrat Ruben Gallego and Republican Kari Lake.
