Some of Donald Trump’s closest aides could serve as witnesses in the former president’s upcoming criminal trials.
At least seven of Trump’s closest advisers are mentioned in one of the three criminal indictments against him or have been interviewed by prosecutors, the Washington Post reported.
Trump’s top presidential campaign adviser, senior communications aide, and several other campaign staffers could be called to testify against their current boss in one of his trials.
Other possible witnesses include former Trump staff members and allies like RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, who would be responsible for helping Trump win the presidency in 2024 if he becomes GOP nominee, the Post noted
A Trump spokesperson told the Post that the Justice Department is harassing Trump aides to interfere with his campaign.
“It is clear that Joe Biden knows he’s losing to President Trump and is now using his weaponized Department of Justice to attack his campaign team in order to interfere in the election,” he said.
A federal grand jury indicted the former president on four charges related to his attempts to overturn the 2020 presidential election this week. Special Counsel Jack Smith had already secured an indictment for Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents and obstruction of justice. Trump was also indicted in New York over alleged hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.
