A photographer caught Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R) searching his name on Twitter after performative tantrums at the confirmation hearing for Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on Wednesday.
Cruz questioned Judge Jackson on issues of race and crime and at one point asked her if he could identify as an Asian man. Cruz also ignored repeated requests from Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill) to stop speaking after his allotted 20 minutes had expired
“You can bang it as long as you want,” Cruz told Durbin.
“I just want you to play by the rules,” Durbin responded.
“I know you like to interrupt, but you have consumed a substantial time of my questioning, and I’m going to ask my questions. And if you want to testify, you are welcome to,” Cruz said.
After the exchange a LA Times reporter shared an image of Cruz appearing to be looking at his phone. “Ted Cruz looks like he’s checking his mentions after his back and forths with KBJ and Durbin,” the reporter wrote.
Kent Nishimura, a LA Times photo journalist shared a photo of Cruz from a different angle and “confirmed” the he was “searching Twitter for his name… right after his exchange with Chairman Durbin”.
