Texas congressman says people who think prayers are not a solution for mass shootings 'don't believe in an almighty god.'

The Republican congressman representing Allen, Texas, where a gunman killed 8 people and injured several others in a mass shooting on Saturday, believes prayer is the solution to stop the mass shooting epidemic.

In an interview with CNN after the shooting Rep. Keith Self called for prayers for the victims and their families.

Asked what his response is to critics who say “prayers aren’t cutting it,” Self said, “Well, those are people that don’t believe in an almighty god who is absolutely in control of our lives. I’m a Christian. I believe that he is.”

There has been at least 200 mass shootings so far in the United States this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. That’s more mass shootings than there are days in the year so far and its up from 176 during the same time last year.
