I usually appreciate a proper dragging of Donald Trump, but this latest attempt by Sen. Ben Sasse made me mad as hell.
Sen. Sasse unloaded on Donald Trump on a number of unflattering issues plaguing his presidency from the start and some recent ones as well. He criticized Donald Trump for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, sucking up to dictators, embracing white supremacists and possibly destroying the Republican party’s image with young people and women.
Listen below:
I am angry, not with the content of the message, what Sen. Sasse said deserves to be said. I am angry at the messenger, the channel of delivery and the timing.
Sen. Ben Sasse does not get to spend the last four years offering periodic tepid criticisms of Donald Trump then 19 days before the election he delivered a forceful condemnation to constituents on a phone call, the contents of which was leaked to the media and first reported by The Washington Examiner.
Any attempt by any Republican to distance themselves from Donald Trump, days before an election that they expect to be a bloodbath for their party, does not mean shit. And it’s even more meaningless when its done in private and not publicly for the world to see.
Sen. Sasse is a coward looking to hold on to his seat now that Donald Trump is a liability.
Consider this, Sen. Sasse did not develop these views about Donald Trump over night. He had them bottled up inside for a while. Despite this he has been a reliable Republican vote on Trumpian policies and his nominees. Sen. Sasse will vote next week to appoint Judge Amy Coney Barrett to a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court.
So, miss me with your bullshit. Sasse, like all the other Republican senators and enablers made their bed now they must sleep in it.
