Senior officials in Donald Trump’s Department of Justice discussed with federal prosecutors in Manhattan about possibly dropping the charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams.
According to a report by The New York Times, officials in the DOJ have also spoken with Adams’ legal defense team led by Alex Spiro, the personal lawyer for right wing billionaire Elon Musk who is an adviser to Trump.
Adams was indicted in September on charges including bribery, fraud and soliciting illegal foreign campaign contributions after an investigation that began in 2021.
He has pleaded not guilty and like Trump, has been falsely claiming that he was indicted for political reasons.
Since Trump’s election win, Adams has praised his immigration policy while also traveling to Mar-a-Lago to meet with Trump and even attended the inauguration.
Adams’ openness to Trump have led his critics to accuse him of trying to secure a presidential pardon if he is convicted or to get the Trump DOJ to drop the case.
