Donald Trump told a group of supporters in Minnesota on Friday that that he won the state in 2020, despite losing by 7 points.

In a speech at the Minnesota Republican Party’s annual Lincoln Reagan Dinner in St. Paul, Trump repeated the debunked claim that his loser to Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential election was due to widespread fraud.

“I thought we won it in 2016. I thought we won it in 20 — I know we won it in 2020,” he said.

“We’ve got to be careful. We’ve got to watch those votes,” he added.

In the 2020 presidential election, Joe Biden defeated Trump in Minnesota, receiving 52.4% of the state’s votes, compared to Trump’s 45.3%.

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton defeated Trump in the state in 2016 though by a smaller margin, 46.9% to 45.4%.

Polling in the 2024 race shows Biden with a consistent lead in Minnesota between 2 and 4 percentage points.

No Republican candidate has won Minnesota since 1972.
