Former President Donald Trump suggests he is not worried about a potential primary challenge from Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), saying he will “handle that the way I handle things.”
In an interview with conservative podcast ‘The Water Cooler’ on Monday, Trump bragged that he saved DeSantis in 2018 by endorsing him for governor in the race against Democrat Andrew Gillum.
“So you know, now I hear he might want to run against me. So we’ll handle that the way I handle things,” Trump added.
Trump announced he is running for president in November last year, while DeSantis is yet to make an official announcement though it is expected that he will be entering the race.
Several polls released late last year shows DeSantis beating Trump in a hypothetical GOP primary match-up.
A YouGov poll conducted between November 13 and 15, put DeSantis ahead by 7 points at 46% to Trump’s 39%.
A USA Today-Suffolk University poll released in December shows the Florida governor with a 23 point lead over Donald Trump, 56% to 33% among Republicans and Republican-leading independents. A Wall Street Journal poll released that same month shows DeSantis with a 52% to 38% lead over Trump among Republican voters.
