Trump says it is a 'big victory' for Republicans that McCarthy lost Speaker vote on six ballots.

Republicans in the House of Representatives are going into a third straight day without electing a Speaker for the first time in a century, yet Donald Trump thinks that is actually a win for Republicans.

GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy is unable to get to 218 votes needed to win the speakership. The House adjourned on Tuesday after McCarthy lost a sixth vote.

“I actually think that a big Republican VICTORY today, after going through numerous Roll Calls that failed to produce a Speaker of the House, has made the position & process of getting to be Speaker BIGGER & MORE IMPORTANT than if it were done in the more traditional way,” Trump wrote on his social media app, Truth Social.

Twenty far-right members of the GOP conference are opposing McCarthy’s bid for Speaker because they do not trust him and want more concessions. With a narrow 222-212 majority in the House, McCarthy can only afford to lose 4 votes.
