Trump slams 'fake charges' brought against by him by Jan. 6 committee.

Former President Donald Trump lashed out at what he calls “fake charges” on Monday after the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot referred him to the Department of Justice on at least four criminal charges.

“The people understand that the Democratic Bureau of Investigation, the DBI, are out to keep me from running for president because they know I’ll win and that this whole business of prosecuting me is just like impeachment was — a partisan attempt to sideline me and the Republican Party,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social app.

“The Fake charges made by the highly partisan Unselect Committee of January 6th have already been submitted, prosecuted, and tried in the form of Impeachment Hoax # 2. I WON convincingly. Double Jeopardy anyone!” he added.

Trump’s rant came hours after the Jan. 6 panel voted unanimously to refer him to the DOJ on charges of obstruction of an official proceeding, conspiracy to defraud the U.S., conspiracy to make a false statement and “incite,” “assist” or “aid or comfort” an insurrection.

It is the first time that Congress has recommended charges against a former president.
