Fox News host Tucker Carlson accused the production crew for Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” of committing an insurrection after they were arrested Thursday night at the US Capitol while filming a comedy segment.
“Last night, producers for Stephen Colbert’s CBS show committed insurrection at the United States Capitol,” Carlson said. “Adam Schiff gave producers from CBS access to the Capitol. And then the group remained in the Longworth House Office Building after hours.”
Carlson claimed that the staffers, who were there to film the segment, stayed after hours in the building to “harass” members of Congress.
The production crew was charged with unlawful entry, a charge that many of the January 6 defendants also faced.
Carlson claimed the incident is “exactly like what happened” on Jan. 6th.
“It is likely that some members of Stephen Colbert’s team will be held in solitary confinement for a year and a half without being charged,” Carlson added. “Because this is an insurrection. Joking aside, how could they not be held? – The precedent is in place.”
At least seven people died, and hundreds were injured, including police officers, as a result of the Jan. 6 insurrection as the pro-Trump stormed the building to try and prevent the certification of President Joe Biden’s election victory.
The production crew’s visit to the Capitol was “authorized and pre-arranged through Congressional aides of the members interviewed,” according to CBS. Also, no one died or suffered any injury during the filming of the segment. Furthermore, their goal was not to overturn an election or halt the peaceful transfer of power.
