Fox News host Tucker Carlson, attacked House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy over his ties to top GOP pollster Frank Luntz who he attacked on his show on Friday suggesting that he has lobbied on behalf of “some of the most left-leaning” causes in America.
“Over the weekend, we got a call from a source who said that, in fact, Frank Luntz and Kevin McCarthy are not simply friends, they’re roommates. Kevin McCarthy lives in Luntz’s apartment in downtown Washington,” Carlson said. “That’s what we were told, and honestly, we did not believe it. The top Republican in the House lives with a Google lobbyist? Come on. Even by the sleazy and corrupt standards of politics in Washington, that didn’t seem possible. In fact, it sounded like a joke.”
McCarthy confirmed on Tuesday that he rented a room from Luntz.
“I didn’t know how this was controversial. Frank has been a friend of mine for more than 30 years. I met him with Newt Gingrich back when they were working on the Contract with America,” McCarthy said on Fox and Friends.
Carlson suggested on his show that McCarthy’s living situation with Luntz may be in violation of House Ethics rules, saying it could give the “lobbyist for Google” an “outsized influence over the Republican Party’s policy positions.”
“Frank’s not a lobbyist,” McCarthy said. “Frank’s a friend I knew 15 years before I ever got in and I just rented a room for a few months there. So I don’t see that there’s any problem along that line. But I’d like to see everybody stay together. Let’s work to make sure we put people back to work, back to health, back to school. Stop this woke movement that’s going on.”
