Tucker Carlson first grade teacher said he lied about this description of her in his 2018 book Ship of Fools.
The Fox host had written that his distaste for liberals began at just seven years old at the affluent La Jolla Country Day School with his teacher Mrs. Raymond.
In his book Carlson describes the teacher as a “parody of mother-earth liberalism” who “wore long Indian-print skirts.” He claimed Raymond eschewed “conventional academic topics, like reading and penmanship,” and would sob “theatrically” at her desk and yell, “the world is so unfair! You don’t know that yet. But you’ll find out!.”
She was also bad at her job so his dad was forced to hire a tutor for him, Carlson wrote.
But, Mrs. Marianna Raymond 77, now retired has a different account of Carlson’s time in her class.
“Oh my God! That is the most embellished, crazy thing I ever heard,” Raymond told the Washington Post when asked about Carlson’s description of her in his book.
She remembers Carlson as “very precious and very, very polite and sweet,” and denies sobbing at her desk, wearing an Indian skirt, or discussing politics with her first grade class.
She confirmed that Carlson’s father did hire a tutor for him. But one key detail that the Fox News host failed to mention in his 2018 biography was that the tutor was the same first grade teacher.
