Wall Street Journal: Trump’s “attention span too short” to stage a coup.

Trump lawyer accuses Democrats of abusing power to interfere in a 'free and fair' election.

The Wall Street Journal’s editorial board sought to assuage voters’ concerns about a second Donald Trump term by claiming that the Republican presidential nominee lacks the “attention span” to stage a real coup.

Even though the paper is not endorsing a candidate in the 2024 presidential election, the editorial board published two articles on the major party presidential contenders this week and what they could accomplish in the White House.

The board claims that a second Trump term could be good for the economy (experts say otherwise) and that he lacks the discipline to ever stage a “real coup.”

“The authoritarian rule that Democrats and the press predicted never appeared,” they wrote. “Mr. Trump was too undisciplined, and his attention span too short, to stay on one message much less stage a coup. America’s checks and balances held, and Democrats benefited from the political backlash.”

The board called Trump’s attempts to overturn the election on Jan. 6, 2021 “appalling,” and “disqualifying” but blamed Democrats for reviving Trump’s political career “with their unprecedented prosecutions and other excesses.”

The WSJ editorial board also dismissed several top Trump advisers, including, former chief of staff Gen. John Kelly and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. Mark Milley, calling their former boss fascist.

“We don’t buy the fascism fears, and we doubt Democrats really do either,” the board said. “Our own concern is whether he can successfully address the country’s urgent problems.”

As for Democratic presidential nominee Vice President Kamala Harris, the board writes that she is “unprepared” to face the challenges abroad and that her presidency will be “a fourth Obama term.”

Without making an official endorsement it appears The Wall Street Journal editorial board is making it pretty clear which candidate they want their readers to support.
