Boebert downplays child abuse charge against her son.

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) defended her eldest son Tyler, after he was charged with misdemeanor child abuse relating to an incident involving her grandson.

Tyler 20, is facing a criminal negligence charge where no death or injury occurred, Denver outlet Westword reported citing Windsor Police Department records. Details that led to the criminal citation were not available to the public.

In a statement Boebert said the charge resulted from a “miscommunication” and that the circumstances leading to the charge was a “one-time incident.”

“Tyler has been doing a great job getting his life on track as a father and citizen over the past year; unfortunately, this event stems from a miscommunication on monitoring my young grandson that recently led to him getting out of our house,” the congresswoman told Newsweek.

“As the citation states, there was absolutely no injury or physical abuse involved,” she added. “Our family has already met with CPS to ensure we are continuing to provide a safe environment for my boys and my grandson; I am confident this is a one-time incident that we have addressed as a family.”

This latest incident comes as Tyler was serving a 24-month probation after pleading guilty to attempting to commit identity theft in October 2024.

The sentence stemmed from a plea deal that was negotiated with officials after Tyler was arrested last year on 22 criminal charges, including five felonies, for his role in a “string of vehicle trespass and property thefts” in Rifle, Colorado last February.

It is unclear if Tyler’s citation violates the terms of his probation. He is due back in court in Weld County Court on September 8.
