Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C) introduced a legislation on Friday to ban federal funds from being used to cover the cost of travel for anyone who wants to go to a less restrictive state for an abortion, according to the Hill.
“Ensuring that the innocent among us are protected is something that is very near and dear to my heart. One of the most important ways we can protect the unborn is by stopping the Biden Administration’s gross abuse of power and executive overreach,” Cawthorn said on Friday. “This legislation showcases that Congress will respect the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe and not allow the federal government to overreach their constitutional authority.”
Several businesses have said they are willing to cover the cost for their employees to travel to get an abortion.
There are no laws right now banning someone from traveling across state lines to legally get an abortion. However, several Republican led states are considering measures to punish anyone who helps an individual get an abortion.
