On Sunday, Florida shattered the record for the highest single-day increase in new coronavirus infections.
The Florida Health Department confirmed 15,299 new coronavirus infections in the state, the largest single-day in new cases in any state since the start of the pandemic, bring the statewide total to 269,811 cases.Â
The state also recorded 45 new deaths. This brings the total number of deaths to 4,242 statewide.
Despite the surge in coronavirus cases, Florida’s Gov. Ron DeSantis says he wants schools to re-open next month with in-person learning.
The record for the largest single-day increase in new cases was held by California with 11,694 cases four days ago.
