George Santos announces he is running for re-election.

DA opens investigation into Rep.-elect George Santos.

Embattled GOP congressman George Santos (NY) announced on Monday that he is running for re-election in 2024.

“Since the Left is pushing radical agendas, the economy is struggling, and Washington is incapable of solving anything, we need a fighter who knows the district and can serve the people fearlessly, and independent of local or national party influence,” Santos said. “Good isn’t good enough, and I’m not shy about doing what it takes to get the job done. I’m proud to announce my candidacy to run for re-election and continue to serve the people of NY-3.”

The announcement comes as Santos is facing several ethics and criminal investigations for lying about his personal, professional and financial background while running for office last election cycle.

He has refused calls to resign from members of his own party even after he admitted to lying about his résumé.

The embattled first-time congressman is heading into what is expected to be a tough re-election with a small war chest. The campaign reported a net loss in the first quarter of 2023 and has only about $25,000 cash on hand, according to a Federal Election Commission filing.
