Giuliani: Trump's indictment will end 'civilization'

Donald Trump’s former attorney Rudy Giuliani said civilization will end if the former president is indicted.

Trump announced on his Truth Social app on Saturday that he learned through “illegal leaks” from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office that he will be arrested Tuesday.

If Trump is charged, it would be the first time in the country’s history that a former president is criminally indicted.

In an interview with Newsmax, Giuliani said indicting Trump would lead to America’s downfall and the end of civilization as we know it, Newsweek reports.

“It’s usually the downfall of a great republic when the prosecution system is turned into a political device,” Giuliani said. “You can look at ancient history, and you can see this is the kind of thing that ends a civilization.”

A grand jury in New York began hearing evidence in January as part of a criminal probe into a 2016 hush money payment that Trump authorized to porn star Stormy Daniels during the election.

Trump was invited to testify last week, a move experts say shows the investigation is in its final stages and that Bragg may be asking the grand jury to vote on an indictment.

Trump declined the invitation to testify.
