Lauren Boebert’s ex-husband arrested on assault, mischief charges

Boebert's ex-husband blames COVID lockdowns for their son's alleged crimes.

The ex-husband of Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) was arrested days after an alleged public altercation involving the former couple.

Jayson Boebert, 43, was arrested Tuesday on six charges, three of which are related to the incident with is ex-wife. The charges including obstructing a peace officer, misdemeanor assault and criminal mischief, according to records viewed by the Daily Beast

Jayson’s arrest came days after he called police, following an altercation with his ex-wife at a restaurant, and claimed he was the victim of domestic violence. He alleged that Boebert punched him in the face several times.

Boebert denied punching him and said in a statement that she will consult with her attorneys “about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options.”

The couple divorced last October after 17 years of marriage.

The alleged incident occurred Saturday night at Miner’s Club, a local restaurant, after the former couple agreed to meet hours after Jayson attempted to hug Boebert when she picked up their son from his home.

An aide to Boebert told the Daily Beast that during the meeting Jayson was “being disrespectful,” “being an asshole” and getting “lewd”.

According to the aide, Jayson “made a motion” toward his ex-wife “to grab her” and that it was “an aggressive move, not romantic.” In the process of keeping him back, Boebert “put her hand in his face” and “put her hand on his nose.”

In an interview with Westworld, Jayson said he was trying to rekindle their relationship when the alleged fight broke out. He admitted that he “overreacted” and should have handled the situation differently.

“I should have handled it more responsibly,” he said. “I mean, look how it escalated. It turned into this big deal, and honestly, it’s just two people trying to figure out, you know, how to have peace with each other and how to move forward from here. It’s just unfortunate, because now it’s turned into this big story. And I know it’s hurt her. She’s a good person; she didn’t deserve that.”

A second physical altercation

According to the arrest affidavit obtained by CBS News, there was a second incident involving Jayson and his 18-year-old son Tyler, around 1 a.m. Tuesday at a residence outside Silt, Colorado.

The teenager was reportedly lying in bed with another person while the baby was lying in a laundry basket full of clothes. Jayson wanted to know why the baby was in the laundry basket and grabbed his son’s phone. He then threw it across the room. When the teenager tried to get it, Jayson shoved him and things got physical.

The teenager told officers that Jayson, who had been drinking, put his thumb in his mouth and he was scared that his father was going to pull out his tooth.

When he was able to retrieve his phone, he called his mother, Lauren Boebert, who told him to call police. While he was on the phone with dispatch he noticed that his dad had grabbed a rifle.

Jayson was arrested and charged with prohibited use of weapons, harassment and assault in the third degree.

He was released the same day on a $2,500 bond.

The latest scandal comes as Boebert is trying to save her political career by switching districts. Boebert announced last month that she is leaving Colorado’s 3rd congressional district for the more GOP friendly 4th district. In a statement, Boebert said the situation with her husband is another reason why she is leaving the 3rd district.
