Maricopa County Republican committee votes to censure Cindy McCain.

The Maricopa County Republican Committee voted on Saturday to censure Cindy McCain, longtime Republican and wife of late Sen. John McCain, according to the Arizona Republic.

The committee cited her support for “leftist” causes including gay marriage, larger government and “others that run counter to Republican value,” and her support for candidates who does not reflect conservative values like President-elect Joe Biden.

Cindy McCain endorsed Joe Biden for president in the 2020 election over the Republican candidate, Donald Trump. McCain even serves on Biden’s transition advisory board.

Biden won Arizona in the 2020 election, the first Democrat to carry the state since 1996. Also, Democrat Mark Kelly defeated Martha McSally in the race for the Senate. He will join fellow Democrat Kyrsten Sinema making this the first time in almost 70 years that the state of Arizona will have two democratic senators.

“I am a proud lifelong Republican and will continue to support candidates who put country over party and stand for the rule of law,” Cindy McCain tweeted in response to the censure.
