Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y) slammed CNN on Wednesday for hosting a town hall for Donald Trump which gave the former president a platform to spread his lies about the 2020 election and the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
“CNN should be ashamed of themselves,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. “They have lost total control of this ‘town hall’ to again be manipulated into platforming election disinformation, defenses of Jan 6th, and a public attack on a sexual abuse victim. The audience is cheering him on and laughing at the host.”
During the hour long town hall appearance in front of a friendly crowd in New Hampshire, Trump doubled down on his lies about the 2020 election, clashed with host Kaitlan Collins and mocked E. Jean Carroll one day after a jury found Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming her.
The former president also defended his supporters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 and said he would likely pardon “many of them” if he is re-elected in 2024.
This as the audience applauded and laughed.
“This falls squarely on CNN. Everyone here saw exactly what was going to happen. Instead they put a sexual abuse victim in harm’s way for views,” Ocasio-Cortez added. “This was a choice to platform lies about the election & Jan 6th w/ no plan but to have their moderator interrupted without consequence.”
