Ted Cruz pranked in Senate gym after his return from Cancun.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz was pranked by his colleagues in the Senate when he returned to Washington after his ill-fated trip to Cancun while his constituents struggled to survive.

When senators arrived at the gym on Wednesday morning, they found memes taped to the lockers welcoming Cruz home and showing him in the short-sleeve polo shirt, jeans and Texas-flag mask that he had on at the airport, two people familiar with the prank told NBC news.

The welcome message reportedly read, “Bienvenido de Nuevo, Ted!”.

According to NBC, the prank had a photo of Cruz dragging his luggage in snow while holding a tropical cocktail in his other hand. He was shown walking toward the viral image of Sen. Bernie Sanders with his arms crossed and wearing striped, knitted gloves.

It’s still not clear who is responsible for pranking Cruz but, the Senate gym is only used by current and former senators.

The set up was removed on Wednesday. Its not clear if Ted Cruz saw it. A committee aide for the Senate Rules Committee told NBC they hadn’t received a complaint about the prank.

Cruz received bipartisan backlash for boarding a flight to Cancun, Mexico last week leaving millions of his constituents without electricity or water amid deadly winter weather.
