Texas GOP's new platform calls for secession.

The Texas Republican Party is calling for a referendum to decide whether the state should secede from the union.

“Pursuant to Article 1, Section 1, of the Texas Constitution, the federal government has impaired our right of local self-government. Therefore, federally mandated legislation that infringes upon the 10th Amendment rights of Texas should be ignored, opposed, refused, and nullified,” the party’s platform under a section titled “State Sovereignty” read, according to Newsweek.

“Texas retains the right to secede from the United States, and the Texas Legislature should be called upon to pass a referendum consistent thereto,” the platform added.

The GOP delegates urge state lawmakers to put a referendum on the agenda for the 2023 election, “for the people of Texas to determine whether or not the State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation.”

Texas Republicans also approved a resolution declaring that President Joe Biden was “not legitimately elected,” the Voting Rights Act of 1965 should be repealed; any gun control is a rights violation; describes homosexuality as “an abnormal lifestyle choice,” and calls for a total ban on abortion.
