U.S. records more than 3,600 deaths from coronavirus in a single day.

The coronavirus pandemic is killing a record number of Americans each day even as the Pfizer vaccine rollout begins and Moderna expected to receive an EUA for its vaccine.

On Wednesday, 3,656 Americans died from COVID-19 according to data from Johns Hopkins University, the most since the pandemic began. It is the fourth time the country recorded more than 3000 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Also on Wednesday, the country set a new single day record for the number of new coronavirus infections, 276,403.

As of Thursday morning, Johns Hopkins University data shows the U.S. has documented almost 17 million cases and 307,512 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

COVID-19 hospitalizations have reached a record 113,090, according to the COVID Tracking Project.
