French President Emmanuel Macron has tested positive for coronavirus according to a statement from his office.
Macron was tested “as soon as the first symptoms appeared” The Élysée Palace, Macron’s official residence, said in a statement. He will self-isolate for seven days and continue to work remotely.

His wife, Brigitte Macron, 67 will also self-isolate even though she isn’t experiencing any symptoms.
Macron met with Portugal’s prime minister, António Costa, for a joint press conference and working lunch on Wednesday. They were in close contact but were wearing masks. Costa’s office said he will self-isolate after the news of Macron’s positive diagnosis.
The President of Spain Pedro Sanchez will isolate for 10 days after meeting with Macron at an event in Paris on Monday, his office said, according to NBC News. Other French officials including Prime Minister Jean Castex’s will also self-isolate for seven days.

Also, Macron attended a European Union summit at the end of last week, where he notably had a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, AP reports.
