The father of a Washington state man who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 is bursting with pride following his son’s arrest last week for trying to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
“My son is a fine young man with a strong sense of right and wrong. I couldn’t be any prouder of him than I am today,” Larry Stickney told KIRO 7.
Larry’s son, Matthew Stickney was arrested last week on four charges related to the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, including breaking and remaining in a restricted building and disorderly conduct in a Capitol building.
Authorities say they have surveillance footage of Stickney inside the Capitol dressed in a black jacket and gray hoodie, according to court documents. GPS and cellphone data also placed him in the vicinity of the Capitol on Jan. 6.
Other evidence against him include Google searches leading up to the riot such as “how do I take my gun with me on a flight,” “can i bring a gas mask on a plane” and “can I carry a knife on a plane?”
Online records showed Stickney bought a plane ticket from Seattle to Washington, DC, two days before the Capitol riot and a return ticket for the day after.
Still, Larry, an outspoken conservative who works as an aide for Councilmember Amy Cruver, is standing by his son.
“I’ll go through hell and back if that’s what it takes to help him and his family through this difficult time,” he told KIRO7.
