Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W. Va.) refused to say whether he still considers himself to be a Democrat during an interview on Fox News Sunday.

Asked by Sunday Morning Futures host Maria Bartiromo if he still identifies as a Democrat, Manchin answered: “I identify as an American. I’m an American through and through.”

Manchin’s term is up in 2024 and he’s yet to make an announcement about whether or not he plans to run for re-election in a tough election year for Senate Democrats.

“My main concern is how do we bring this country together?” Manchin said on Sunday. “How do we make it work? How do we make Democrats, Republicans become Americans again, and not just party affiliates?”
