President Joe Biden’s State of Union address was well received by the audience on Thursday night, according to a CNN flash poll.
Among those who watched the speech, 64% had a positive reaction with 35% of those respondents said they had a “very positive” reaction and 29% said they had a “somewhat positive” reaction, according to the CNN Poll conducted by SSRS.
Thirty-five percent of viewers said they had a negative response to Biden’s speech.
Biden’s speech also changed viewers’ opinion about the direction of the country.
The poll finds that among speech watchers there was 17 point swing among voters who said the country is heading in the right direction. 45% pre-speech to 62% post speech.
CNN political director David Chalian noted that the sample size made up of about 37% Democratic, 30% Republican, 33% independent. So about eight points more Democratic than general population.
