Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Tuesday that the world should have confidence in the United States to ensure there is a smooth transition of power, not to President-elect Joe Biden’s first term in office but to Donald Trump’s second term.
Responding to questions about the State Department’s plan for a transition to the Biden-Harris administration, Pompeo said: “There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration.”
“We’re ready the world is watching what’s taking place. We’re going to count all the votes, when the process is complete there’ll be electors selected. There’s a process, the constitution lays it out pretty clearly.”
He added: “The world should have every confidence that transition necessary to make sure the State Department is functional today, successful today, and successful when the president who is in office in January 20th a minute after noon will be successful”
This comes as The Washington Post reports that the White House instructed the leaders of several federal agencies to not cooperate with Joe Biden’s transition team until Donald Trump finally accepts that he’s lost the election.
