A man armed with an AR-15 was arrested near the U.S. Capitol on Tuesday.
The man was arrested in a park near Senate office buildings across from Union Station in Washington, D.C., according to the U.S. Capitol Police.
“At this time we have no reason to believe there is an ongoing threat. We are working to gather more information and will put out more details when they are confirmed,” authorities say.
“We just searched the area in the park that we secured. Out of an abundance of caution, we’re going to search the suspect’s belongings,” police added.
A a police lieutenant later reporters at the Capital Tuesday that, “there was an individual that had — was called out to have a gun, and our officers responded quickly got him into custody. And there’s no further threat at this time,” according to NBC News.
