Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said on Monday that the photo released by Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to quiet concerns about health is an old photo.

In a statement on Sunday, McConnell revealed that a fall left him “briefly unconscious” and he developed a mild case of pneumonia.

“My doctors have confirmed that I didn’t break any bones or suffer a concussion,” McConnell wrote. “I didn’t have a heart attack or a stroke. I don’t have any tumors or hemorrhages. But I was briefly unconscious and was taken to the hospital.”

“While receiving excellent care over the past several weeks, I’ve also had to deal with a mild case of pneumonia,” he added.

McConnell’s statement was accompanied by a photo of himself in a hospital bed alongside his wife, former Labor and Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao. It was the first statement the 84-year-old lawmaker made since his hospitalization on June 14.

In an interview on Monday’s episode of The Balance on Real America’s Voice, Johnson said he heard from a source that it was an old photo.

“I just heard from some other source that was an older photo,” Johnson said in a clip highlighted by Mediaite. “So, I really don’t know. I haven’t talked to Mitch. I certainly wish he and his family well. I hope he can recover. It’s– listen. It’s sad to watch people age no matter who that person is. I’ve served with Mitch McConnell for 16 years. Obviously, I’ve disagreed with him on a host of things, but I also know he loves this country. He loves. He loves the Senate.”

“I wish him well. I hope he recovers. I hope he can come back and contribute and vote with the president’s agenda,” Johnson added.

Johnson appeared to walk back his remark later on Monday, writing on Twitter, “Beware of clickbait — watch the full clip. Most importantly, I hope @SenMcConnell makes a full recovery and returns to the Senate.”
