The head of the Republican National Committee (RNC’s) election integrity unit was indicted Wednesday for conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Arizona.
Christina Bobb, is among the 18 individuals charged with felony offenses including fraud, forgery, and conspiracy in connection with a ‘fake elector’ scheme to falsely award Trump Arizona electors despite him losing the state to Joe Biden.
Bobb is a former OAN host who joined Trump’s 2020 legal team after the election and promoted the former president’s debunked claim that the 2020 presidential contest was stolen from him.
After Trump’s team consisting of his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump and election denier Michael Whatley, was installed as co-chairs of the RNC Bobb was selected to lead the committee’s ‘election integrity’ unit.
“I’m honored to join the RNC and thrilled the new leadership is focused on election integrity,” Bobb said in a statement to The Washington Post at the time. “I look forward to working to secure our elections and restore confidence in the process.”
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes accused Bobb and the 17 other defendants of undermining the electoral process with the scheme to award Trump the state’s electoral votes despite his loss.
“We’re here because justice demands an answer to the efforts the defendants and other unindicted co-conspirators allegedly took to undermine the will of Arizona’s voters during the 2020 presidential election,” Mayes said. “Arizona’s election was free and fair. The people of Arizona elected President Biden, unwilling to accept this fact that defendants charged by the state grand jury, allegedly schemed to prevent the lawful transfer of the presidency. Whatever their reasoning was, the plot to violate the law must be answered for and I was elected to uphold the law of this state.”
“The scheme had it succeeded would have deprived Arizona’s voters of their right to have their votes counted for their chosen president” Mayes added. “It effectively would have made their right to vote meaningless.”
Bobb also found herself in more legal drama unrelated to Trump’s effort to overturn the election when she signed a letter in the former president’s classified documents case stating that a “diligent search” had been conducted at Mar-a-Lago and that all classified documents were turned over to the government.
The FBI executed a search warrant months later and retrieved about 100 other classified documents, according to the Associated Press.
