Scranton, Pennsylvania honored its native son, President-elect Joe Biden on his birthday by renaming the street just outside his childhood home ‘Joe Biden Way’.
Scranton Mayor Paige Gebhardt Cognetti and U.S. Sen. Bob Casey unveiled the sign at the intersection of North Washington Avenue and Fisk Street as the crowd of about 200 people including dozens of city and state officials, supporters and well wishers cheered.
Mayor Cognetti said the sign “is a step toward recognizing this achievement for our City, in hopes of giving a lasting boost of confidence to every child who lives here.”
“He knows how proud of him we are, and it lifts the people of the city,” Former Mayor of Scranton Jimmy Connors said. “We feel proud that one of ours is the president of the United States.”
United States Sen. Bob Casey said Biden has a rough road ahead but he has faith that the President-elect “is prepared to take on the most difficult of circumstances.”
Joe Biden will be sworn into office on January 20, 2021 as the 46th President of the United States. On Friday, he celebrated his 78th birthday which would make him the oldest U.S. President ever to be sworn into office.
