Tillis calls Vance’s Ukraine comments “total and unmitigated bullsh*t”

Republican senator: No one "deserves absolute immunity"

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) slammed Sen. J.D. Vance’s (R-Ohio) recent comments about Ukraine aid, calling his remarks “total and unmitigated bullshit.”

“I think it’s bullshit,” Tillis told reporters, according to The Hill. “If you’re talking about giving money to Ukrainian ministers — total and unmitigated bullshit. Not productive conversation … not real happy about it.”

Tillis was responding to comments Vance made on Steve Bannon’s podcast Monday, where he claimed some lawmakers want to cut Social Security to send more money to Ukraine so “one of [Ukrainian President Volodymyr] Zelensky’s ministers can buy a bigger yacht.”

Vance is oppose to sending more aid to Ukraine because he believes that the country will never be able to defeat the invading Russian army. He argued that it makes no sense to send additional aid to Ukraine since previous aid packages did not end the war.

In response to Tillis’ comments Vance told reporters that the North Carolina senator is “not living in reality.”

“We know that a number of people have gotten rich in Ukraine, and I think it’s naivety if you don’t think they’ve gotten rich with some of our money,” he said. “With all due respect to Thom, he’s not living in reality. There is no plausible pathway to the end of the war where Ukraine goes back to 1991 or 2014. It just isn’t … that’s not a desirable thing; it’s not a good thing.”
