The United States recorded its highest number of new cases in a single day since August 14 on Friday when the country recorded 55,054 cases, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

This is a clear sign that the U.S has failed to contained the virus even as Donald Trump continue to paint a rosy picture about the federal government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Also on Friday, Florida’s governor Ron DeSantis lifted all restrictions placed on businesses in the state to limit the spread of the coronavirus.
