Why Donald Trump will not concede.

Why Donald Trump will not concede.

It has been more than 24 hours since Joe Biden was declared the winner of the presidential election. Yet, there’s still no concession speech from Donald Trump and there likely won’t be one.

To be clear, a concession speech after an election is not embedded in the constitution, it is a norm dating back to 1896. It’s the last norm Trump will break as president. A concession speech is a show of unity post-election as the loser tells his supporters to accept the results of the election and move on from the divisiveness of the campaign season.

That doesn’t sound like Donald Trump.

With 73 days left in office, no one is clear as to what Donald Trump will do after he leaves the White House. But, just know that whatever it is, it will be all about him. Whatever he does, it will be done to benefit himself and probably his family.

Conceding to Joe Biden will hurt his brand that he spent years building among his supporters. Don’t forget, over 70 million people voted for him, the second highest number among any presidential candidate in the nation’s history. Donald Trump ain’t going anywhere.

He’ll use his defeat to Joe Biden as a launch pad for his next venture. Whether it be a talk show, a podcast, TV show or maybe his own TV network, to continue to have that direct line of communication to his supporters to keep them tuned in to his narrative about the election or any other grievances he may want to get off his chest. Trump will not allow his supporters’ view of him to be ‘corrupted’ by the ‘liberal fake news media’ especially since he’ll likely seek the Republican party nomination for president again in 2024.

Also, Trump may have lost control of the country but he still controls the Republican party, it’s his party now whether they like it or not. However he choses to remain in the spotlight just known that he will try to influence the Republicans especially those in Congress to try and stymie Joe Biden’s presidency.

The possibilities for someone with Donald Trump’s media background and a cult like following is endless.

All that goes away if he concedes. In order to reap the maximum benefits post-presidency, he cannot allow his supporters to make peace with the ‘other side’. He cannot allow his supporters to legitimize Joe Biden’s presidency. Because given the choice between choosing what’s good for the country or what’s good for himself, Trump will always choose himself.
