Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville actually lives in Florida: Report.

Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville has actually lived in Florida for almost two decades, according to the Washington Post.

Campaign finance documents and property records obtained by the Post suggest that Tuberville’s primary residence is a $3 million beach house that he has lived in for nearly 20 years, in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

Additionally, Tuberville’s wife, Suzanne, is a licensed real estate agent in Florida, but she has no license in Alabama.

Tuberville also voted in the 2018 midterms in Florida, according to the Post. A few months later, in March 2019, he registered to vote in Alabama just one week before he announced his run for US Senate. Tuberville listed a residence in Auburn, Alabama for his voter registration address at the time. However, records show that the property belongs to his son who shares his first name but has a different middle name.

A spokesperson for Tuberville told the Post that the Santa Rosa Beach house is a vacation home, and said he “goes there upon occasion if he has a free weekend. It is within driving distance of Auburn.”

Senators are required to live in the states they represent, according to the U.S. Constitution. But in Alabama, the minimum residency requirement to represent the state in the United States Senate is just one day.

Tuberville has been in the headlines these past few months for controversial comments about white nationalists in the military and for blocking top military confirmations to protest a Pentagon policy that reimburses female service members who are forced to travel out of state for an abortion.
