Democratic senator calls for Clarence Thomas to resign: "Cannot judge right from wrong."

Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) called on Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to resign saying that his “reputation is unsalvageable.”

“I will say what needs to be said: Clarence Thomas should resign from the Supreme Court of the United States. His reputation is unsalvageable,” Markey told reporters. “It is evident that he cannot judge right from wrong. So why should he be judging the country’s most important cases, on its highest court?”

Markey’s comments come after a ProPublica report detailed Thomas’ secret lavish vacations on a private jet and superyacht paid for by GOP megadonor, Harlan Crow, for years without disclosing them. In a statement Thomas said he was “advised” not to disclosed the gifts.

ProPublica also reported that Thomas did not disclose a real estate deal he made with Crow in 2014.

“We have to ensure that the mockery which Justice Clarence Thomas is actually committing is corrected because it is a violation of public trust,” Markey said, adding, “Clarence Thomas is serving on the high court with the highest level of corruption.”

Markey made the comments while speaking to reporters during the kick off of a 20-stop tour focused on advocating for tighter ethical restrictions on the Supreme Court. Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) were also in attendance.

The press conference came one day before Politico reported that the CEO of a major law firm that has had cases before the US Supreme Court bought a property owned by Neil Gorsuch nine days after he was confirmed to the high court.
