Former White House lawyer warns Trump's rhetoric could land him in pretrial lockup.

Former Trump White House lawyer Ty Cobb, warned that the former president’s “off the rails” comments and posts on social media could land him in jail.

Cobb’s comments came after Trump, who is under a limited gag order in New York, reposted a comment on his Truth Social platform calling for a citizen’s arrest of New York Attorney General Letitia James and the judge overseeing his fraud trial Arthur Engoron.

“It’s much like what he did on Jan. 6. It continues to be off the rails in terms of the extent to which his invective infects these proceedings and is the potential to intimidate witnesses,” Cobb told CNN. “I believe that, you know, at some point, comments like this will result in Trump not only being sanctioned, but at some point, these types of comments will result in him being put in jail pending some of these trials.”

Trump was already fined twice for violating the gag order with a disparaging social media post about a court staffer and for comments he had made outside court attacking Engoron’s law clerk. A gag order was also issued in Trump’s federal election subversion case, but that has been paused pending appeal.
