Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger certified the results of the state’s presidential election on Friday making Joe Biden’s victory official.
This comes after the state completed a hand recount of the results which confirmed that Biden won the state, making him the first Democratic presidential candidate to do so since 1992.
This is a major blow to Donald Trump who has launched a longshot bid to overturn the election results.
Gov. Brian Kemp signed the paperwork to officially grant Georgia’s 16 electoral votes to President-elect Joe Biden, but not before offering a reminder that the Trump campaign can now pursue legal options.
“State law now requires the governor’s office to formalize the certification, which pages the way for the Trump campaign to pursue other legal options and a separate recount if they choose,” Gov. Kemp said. “As governor, I have a solemn responsibility to follow the law, and that is what I will do.”
