Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-OH) told CNN on Thursday that he sent his daughter and granddaughter out of state amid the very public custody battle with Rep. Max Miller.

“I sent my daughter, granddaughter, and wife out of state to a secure place until such time as they feel safe,” Moreno told CNN on Thursday.

But Miller told CNN that Moreno’s claim about sending his family away for their safety wasn’t true and presented the network with emails showing his ex-wife communicating flight information to him and allowing a video visit with their daughter.

“Congressmen (sic) Miller knows exactly where his daughter is,” a spokesperson said. “Emily asked to take the child to see family in Florida. They were not wisked (sic) away to some bunker. This is getting sad.”

Emily Moreno, the senator’s daughter, alleged that Miller abused her and their child during and after their three-year marriage.

Moreno reportedly told police that Miller threw hot water on her and threw her against a wall. Moreno also said that he held a gun to her head and broke his daughter’s collarbone.

The couple divorced in August 2024 and agreed to joint custody. But they are locked in a heated battle now as each seeks sole custody.

Miller has denied the allegations and is refusing to drop his re-election bid despite growing calls for him to leave the race.
