Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) has called on Congress to impeach Donald Trump for undermining America’s free and fair elections.

“Trump must be impeached for undermining and subverting our free and fair elections,” Markey wrote in a post on Twitter.

“And when he sends ICE agents to the polls, then we must turn civic action into civil disobedience and take to the streets. Sit in. Protest. Withhold our labor. Everything must be on the table,” he added.

Markey’s post comes after Trump delivered a primetime address on Thursday in which he repeatedly made unsubstantiated claims about voter fraud and foreign interference in the 2020 election, which he lost to Joe Biden.

Trump specifically accused China of exploiting vulnerabilities in American voting systems. He also said he had declassified hundreds of documents that supported his claims that China had tried to rig the election for Biden.

The US intelligence community has previously concluded China did not interfere in the 2020 election.

Experts say the documents Trump declassified reveal nothing new as they largely discuss vulnerabilities that have been known for years and that election officials in the United States have tried to address.

Trump claimed that his purpose was “not to weaken confidence” in America’s elections. But critics say that is exactly what he is doing and laying the groundwork to potentially challenge the outcome of the midterm elections, which is expected to be brutal for his Republican Party.

“It’s deeply alarming that President Trump continues to try to undermine free and fair elections,” twenty-four Democratic governors said in a statement.

“No amount of lies and conspiracy theories can change the fact that our country’s elections have repeatedly been proven to be safe and secure,” the statement continued. “These attacks are intended to intimidate and silence voters.”

“Let’s be clear – in America, voters choose their leaders, not the other way around,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) posted on social media. Democrats will fight like hell to make sure every American voter can cast their ballot freely, without obstruction or interference from Donald Trump.
