Snapchat announced on Wednesday that it has permanently banned Donald Trump “in the interest of public safety.”
The permanent ban comes after Snapchat temporarily locked his account last week.
“Last week we announced an indefinite suspension of President Trump’s Snapchat (SNAP) account, and have been assessing what long term action is in the best interest of our Snapchat community,” a Snapchat spokesperson said.
“In the interest of public safety, and based on his attempts to spread misinformation, hate speech, and incite violence, which are clear violations of our guidelines, we have made the decision to permanently terminate his account,” the spokesperson added.
Social media companies have step up their efforts to limit Trump’s reach in the wake of the deadly riots on Capitol Hill last Wednesday which he incited. Facebook, Instagram and YouTube have placed temporary bans on his accounts while Twitter permanently ban him.
