Donald Trump is pushing back on reports that he has been falling asleep during his criminal trial in New York.
“Contrary to the FAKE NEWS MEDIA, I don’t fall asleep during the Crooked D.A.’s Witch Hunt, especially not today,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I simply close my beautiful blue eyes, sometimes, listen intensely, and take it ALL in!!!”
Multiple reporters have documented Trump’s frequent naps in court during the trial.
On Wednesday, New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, who first reported on Trump’s mid-trial naps, told CNN that people in the former president’s orbit confirmed that he has been falling asleep in court.
“People around him have confirmed to me that he has been sleeping at times that we have said he is,” Haberman said.
But, sometimes Trump closes his eyes “because that is how he tries to just basically stay calm and deal with it. And whether that then leads to sleep or whatever, who knows?” Haberman added.
