Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) slammed House Republicans impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas saying it sets a “terrible precedent.”

The House narrowly voted to impeach Mayorkas Tuesday. It was Republicans second attempt after failing to successfully impeach the DHS secretary last week.

Three Republicans Reps. Ken Buck (Colo.), Tom McClintock (Calif.) and Mike Gallagher (Wis.) voted ‘no’ on Mayorkas’ impeachment both times.

In an interview with CNN after his vote, Buck explained that it sets a “terrible precedent” to impeach Mayorkas after failing to prove that his conduct rises to the level of a high crime and misdemeanor.

“The facts didn’t change in my opinion of him,” Buck said. “I prosecuted for 25 years. I know what a high crime and misdemeanor are and I know that this doesn’t qualify. This is a policy difference.”

He continued: “You can try to put lipstick on this pig. It is still a pig. And this is a terrible impeachment. It sets a terrible precedent. The first impeachment of Donald Trump was a bad impeachment. And we’ve got to stop this in this body, or we are going to lose our credibility with the– further lose our credibility with you the American public.”
