YouTube temporarily suspended and demonitized One America News Network after the Trump-friendly outlet promoted a fake cure for COVID-19, Axios reports.
The video, which has since been deleted, violates YouTube’s guidelines about spreading misinformation about COVID-19, YouTube spokesperson Ivy Choi tells Axios.
OANN is barred from posting new videos or do any live streaming for a week. They were also suspended from YouTube Partner Network, so they will have to re-apply if they want to monetize future videos.
This is a major step for the Google owned service which was reluctant to take measures to curb the spread of misinformation on its platform. Earlier this month they refused to remove a video posted by OANN claiming that Trump won the election.
